The polymer packaging films are sheer polymer layers of 0,2 – 0,3 mm thickness. The thicker layers of the polymer materials are called sheets or plates. They are produced from natural, artificial and synthetic polymers.
A wide group is made by the packaging films produced from artificial polymers, i.e. products of the chemical processing of natural polymers. This group includes the packaging films received on the basis of the cellulose aethers, as well as from the natural rubber that previously has undergone the process of hydrochlorination. The most extensive group of packaging films is made by the films produced on the basis of synthetic polymers. The most popular and widespread films out of this group are stretch films, polyolefin films, polyethylene films, shrinkage films. Polyethylene, polypropylene, cellulose and its aethers, polyvinylchloride, polystyrene, polyamides, polyethers, hydrochloride of natural rubber and other polymers are used for the production of the packaging films.
The polymer films are mainly used as the packaging material for the foodstuff as well as for the packaging of the commodity goods, liquid and dry chemical and petrochemical products, for the household purposes.
